Woodland park apartments
Location: Seattle, Washington
Client: Legacy Partners
The Woodland Park Apartments project, located in the eclectic Fremont Hub Urban Village, features the preservation of the historic Shannon Wilson building and two new apartment buildings with 170 units. As part of the preservation effort, large existing street trees are retained along Woodland Park Avenue North and North 38th Street by the Shannon Wilson building, providing a mature canopy. The entry plaza between the existing and proposed buildings on Woodland Park Ave echoes the sawtooth pattern of the Shannon Wilson roofline, with raised integrated planters helping mitigate the grade difference and exposed walls. Integrated benches and a cobble band run around the planters, and integrated strip lighting in the concrete paving complement the overall zigzag pattern. A simplified planting palette across the project unifies the spaces and enhances the pedestrian experience with trees, shrubs, grasses, and groundcover. Bioplanters help mitigate stormwater.
At the north side of the project, a small entry plaza for the proposed café space in the Shannon Wilson building also serves as the entry for the smaller walk-up unit building at the east side of the site. On the main apartment building, an amenity deck on Level 8 features an outdoor kitchen and relaxation space, taking advantage of the southern views towards downtown and Mt. Rainier. At the roof level, a small pet park provides space for tenants to also enjoy the views with a secure space for pet relief.
