This affordable housing project in the Rainier Beach neighborhood aims to provide a campus of buildings designed to accommodate larger families, in response to the lack of affordable housing for families with children and extended families living together. The landscape design creates several amenity spaces, including a tenant gardening area, a naturalistic play area and picnic tables, private patio entrances for units, and bioretention in several locations. Play areas for the daycare are in the protected central courtyard. The generous setbacks allow for circulation and vegetated buffers around the site, creating a pedestrian friendly environment. Mature existing street trees and proposed trees at the back of sidewalk create a multilayered, pedestrian friendly streetscape.
